From the Leader of Pastoral Care - Year 7

Year 7 Welcome Camp – Camp Kinidlan 

Year 7 were very lucky to squeeze in their recent camp to Lake Kindilan at Redland Bay! After a couple of weeks of rain and uncertainty if this would prevent the trip, we were blessed with blue skies on the Wednesday morning and a favourable forecast for the three days scheduled. 

Students arrived at Kindilan and were welcomed by their amazing Groupies who got the Year 7 students busy straight away. Students participated in an ‘Amazing Race’ style challenge called passports to the world - a challenge that acquainted the students with the facilities and camp areas. Straight after this the students were put into their activity groups for the remainder of the camp. Students participated in activities that got the adrenaline racing such as abseiling, the flying fox and the crate stack! They also had the opportunity to explore the lake canoeing and building their own rafts (requiring patience, communication and problem-solving skills). Students also had the chance to challenge their balance on the low ropes course, test their coordination on the trampoline/basketball court and again build on their teamwork and communication skills in the bush craft activities.

Night-time activities consisted of the cube challenge (inspired by the recent TV show) where students had small challenges to complete whilst versing other groups. The second night students had a great time at the disco, followed by a wonderful liturgy, led by Miss Bianca McInnes, where students were able to reflect and connect with Christ. 

It was a fantastic camp where students were able to meet more of their grade, make new friends, test their comfort limits and most of all have so much fun! The students must be commended on their behaviour at the camp, it was an absolute pleasure to accompany them on their first high school camp. I would like to sincerely thank all of the staff that attended the camp, and note also, camps like this are not possible without you and the time given up by them is so valued.
